Panda Cub – Chapter 43

Craving Jelly

Inside, He Ying was diligently teaching, little by little, correcting their postures, when suddenly, someone whispered that President Jing had arrived.

President Jing Dan?

She was startled, looked up and outside, only to see Jing Dan standing outside the training room, looking in through the glass with a frosty face, looking as though someone owed her eight million.

No, considering Jing Dan’s wealth, eight million wouldn’t make her look like this; it would take eight hundred million.

Who has annoyed her this time?

Others might not notice, but how could He Ying, who had been around Jing Dan for so long, not see that she was probably cursing someone in her heart right now.

She smiled faintly, turned back to the others and said, “Class is over, take a break, I’ll go out first.” Saying so, she walked towards Jing Dan.

Those left behind watched the two of them, each one a bit excited.

“Ah, ah, ah, I didn’t expect I could ship Chun and Jing Ming from such a close distance!”

“They really are a perfect match! Hope it’s real, then lock it down!”

……

He Ying approached Jing Dan but noticed she seemed uninterested in talking, which puzzled her since everything was fine that morning.

“Jing Dan?” she called out.

However, Jing Dan huffed and turned away without a glance.

He Ying was baffled: “What’s with her?”

She caught up and peered at Jing Dan’s face from the side, noticing she indeed seemed a bit upset.

“What’s wrong? Who upset you? I’ll sort them out for you,” He Ying said with a soft, teasing tone.

Jing Dan gave her a look, implying, “You should sort yourself out first!”

Jing Dan walked faster, leaving He Ying behind, who, unfazed, leisurely followed. Then, she saw Jing Dan enter an elevator and, after pressing a floor button, stand there expressionlessly waiting for her.

He Ying’s smile grew as she hastened her steps. Entering the elevator and deliberately standing close to Jing Dan, she asked with a smile, “Waiting for me?”

As she got closer, her warm breath seemed to envelop them, making Jing Dan’s expression even more tense.

Hmph, just a moment ago you were so close to someone else, and now you’re getting close to her again!

She stepped back, putting more distance between herself and He Ying.

He Ying raised an eyebrow, what exactly is up with this person?

When the elevator arrived, it opened, and she followed Jing Dan out, enduring the scrutinizing looks from the secretary’s office before entering Jing Dan’s office together, then firmly closing the door.

As soon as Jing Dan entered the office, she walked straight to her seat and then looked at He Ying with a cold and indifferent gaze. No kidding, the look was quite intimidating.

He Ying approached, standing directly in front of her desk, and then placed both hands on the desk, looking down at her, “Can you tell me what made you angry?”

She found that Jing Dan’s anger was actually a good thing; she got angry instantly and showed it on her face, letting you clearly know she was mad, prompting you to hurry up and appease her! Unlike some people who silently get angry inside but never show it, by the time you realize, they probably have already become a ticking bomb.

Seeing her still with a tense face and not speaking, He Ying sighed softly and said, “If you’re angry and don’t tell me, I’m really worried now, so worried that I can’t even cook. So, how about we order takeout for lunch?”

She just didn’t believe Jing Dan could hold out.

Jing Dan: “…” How could this person be so outrageous!

“Hmm? Won’t you say?” He Ying’s voice softened, increasingly sounding like she was cooing.

Jing Dan stood up expressionlessly and then walked over to He Ying. Equally without expression, she placed her hand on He Ying’s waist, then on her arm, and then on her shoulder.

Startled by her sudden actions, He Ying: “…”

What was she doing? But why did these movements seem familiar? Upon reflection, He Ying realized these were the exact corrections she had been making on her students moments ago!

Was she upset about that?

He Ying couldn’t help but feel both amused and tender-hearted, looking at Jing Dan’s expressionless face and finding herself completely disarmed, yet simultaneously feeling a softness in her heart. How could someone manage to be so adorable even when they’re annoyed?

“I was teaching them, helping them understand where their problems lay,” He Ying explained, hoping her actions were, in fact, quite normal.

Jing Dan, with a tense face, said, “My aunt said you shouldn’t let others touch your body carelessly.” By that logic, it also meant one shouldn’t carelessly touch someone else’s body.

He Ying was at a loss for words, “…”

She had no rebuttal to that statement, but was Jing Shiyue really teaching Jing Dan like that? It sounded like something you’d say to a child.

Suppressing a laugh, she then became serious and earnestly said, “I’ve learned my lesson! From now on, I’ll make sure to remember what your aunt said; I won’t let others touch me casually, and I certainly won’t touch others without care!”

Hearing this, Jing Dan’s expression relaxed somewhat, and with a soft snort, she pridefully returned to her position.

He Ying chuckled lightly and drawled, “But why do you care so much about this?”

Jing Dan replied with unwavering conviction, “My aunt said it’s a bad thing. If it’s bad, of course, you shouldn’t do it!”

He Ying: “…”

‘My aunt says, my aunt says,’ indeed, just as Hu Tu described, she’s a veritable aunt’s treasure.

(If you're not reading on littlepandatranslations.com, it means this has been stolen)

Shaking her head, she mused, how come this aunt’s treasure is quite adorable?

In the following teaching session, the artists were horrified to discover that Teacher He now wielded a small bamboo stick. If there was a problem in their performance, the bamboo stick would point it out, and the slightly cool touch of it on their bodies could send shivers down their spine, almost as if they were being whipped!

So, to avoid feeling the sensation of being whipped, each of them doubled their efforts in learning and practicing, making rapid progress.

He Ying: “…” Did these people suddenly take steroids?

Regardless of whether the rumors about hormone intake were true, the positive outcome was undeniable: when He Ying observed how the public praised the artists from Qingzhu Entertainment for their impeccable demeanor, she felt a sense of pride greater than any she had experienced from her own dance awards.

On this day, He Ying was fulfilling a promise to Jing Dan.

Seeing He Ying carrying a makeup bag, Jing Dan tilted her head curiously. Was it meant for her?

Sitting down in front of Jing Dan, He Ying looked at her bare face and chuckled, “How about a makeup session?”

Although Jing Dan was already stunning without makeup, He Ying was eager to see how she would look after being made up.

Jing Dan gazed at the fully stocked makeup kit and asked, “Is it new?”

Her aunt had told her that makeup was personal and shouldn’t be shared lightly.

He Ying was paused for a moment—is this how normal people think?

With a light laugh, she replied, “Yes, it’s brand new~”

She had selected the makeup carefully, based on observations of Jing Dan’s skin type, to ensure it would suit her perfectly.

Hearing this, Jing Dan nodded in satisfaction, allowing He Ying to dab and spread makeup on her face methodically.

He Ying applied makeup with serious focus, her gaze deep and mysterious, as if harboring a whirlpool with the magical power to draw people in.

Jing Dan observed her eyes from such a close distance, and then her face. Even at this proximity, her skin seemed so delicate that pores were nearly invisible. As He Ying’s face moved back and forth in front of her, her bright red lips became even more captivating.

Her lips, slightly pursed, looked incredibly serious.

However, a storm was brewing in Jing Dan’s mind at that moment.

Her lips really looked lovely! So lovely that one could recognize her just by the shape of her lips!

They seemed really bouncy too. If one were to press them, would they immediately bounce back? They also resembled those strawberry-flavored jelly candies, bouncy and moist.

Jing Dan really felt a craving.

With the two of them so close, He Ying naturally noticed her distraction and asked, “What are you thinking about?”

“I’m craving jelly,” Jing Dan immediately responded.

After answering, Jing Dan’s eyes widened in an instant, and she glanced at He Ying somewhat flusteredly. She wondered if He Ying knew about her wanting to eat her “jelly”?

“Don’t move around,” He Ying said softly, not understanding why Jing Dan reacted so strongly. It was just about wanting some jelly, not something difficult to handle.

“Fine, if you want to eat, we’ll eat. After I finish your makeup, we can go to the supermarket together.”

Jing Dan: “…” Oh, she doesn’t know.

Once Jing Dan stopped fidgeting, He Ying quickly finished her makeup. Jing Dan’s eyebrows were already pretty, and all He Ying did was deepen their color slightly. Then she applied foundation that matched Jing Dan’s skin tone and moisturizing, bright red lipstick. With that, the makeup was considered complete.

He Ying, after finishing Jing Dan’s makeup: “…”

At that moment, she wasn’t sure how she felt. Doing Jing Dan’s makeup seemed too easy, almost as if it were akin to her being bare-faced!

She held her forehead, realizing that Jing Dan was too beautiful—so beautiful that any cosmetic seemed superfluous on her. This led He Ying to often feel, before even starting, that Jing Dan already looked good and didn’t need any more makeup.

Moreover, this level of beauty wasn’t something that could be achieved with makeup by others.

“What’s wrong? Don’t I look good?” Jing Dan pursed her lips, looking at He Ying who was holding her forehead and sighing, she couldn’t help but ask. At the same time, she felt a bit worried internally. Could it be that she really didn’t look good with makeup? No wonder her aunt didn’t let her wear makeup.

“No,” He Ying shook her head, looking closely at Jing Dan’s face, sighing, “It’s because you’re too beautiful. You look extremely good-looking, with or without makeup.”

Saying so, she got up to fetch a mirror and handed it to Jing Dan, “See for yourself, aren’t you very beautiful?”

Jing Dan looked into the mirror held up by He Ying and was slightly startled at first when she saw the person in it. The reflection was familiar, yet she felt there was something slightly unfamiliar about it, tilting her head in curiosity.

It seemed her lips were redder, and her eyebrows a shade darker.

She nodded in agreement, very seriously saying, “I am very beautiful!”

She spoke with such earnestness that it was as if the statement was more truthful than diamonds.

Hearing this, even knowing that Jing Dan was always so straightforward, He Ying was startled for a moment, then burst into laughter, nodding and smiling, “You’re right, you are very beautiful.”

This wasn’t narcissism on Jing Dan’s part; it was a profound self-awareness.

Jing Dan pursed her lips, but to He Ying, it looked more like she was trying to hide a smile, making her seem increasingly adorable and endearing.

“You are very beautiful too!” Jing Dan looked up at He Ying’s face, so beautiful that she knew she would remember it and never forget.

Upon hearing Jing Dan’s compliments, He Ying curled her lips in a smile, “As long as you think it looks good.”

She put the mirror away, but thought to herself that this one makeup session for Jing Dan was experiment enough. If not necessary, she wouldn’t need to do her makeup again. Jing Dan looked prettier and more comfortable without makeup. The application of foundation seemed only to make her uncomfortable.

Watching He Ying put the mirror away, Jing Xiaodan, who had been feeling quite pleased with herself, suddenly missed it: “…”

She had wanted to look at herself a bit longer!

However, the issue at hand was something else. She took He Ying to the door of a room and said very seriously, “Take a look inside.”

He Ying, puzzled by her actions, knew all too well the layout of Jing Dan’s room. According to its original layout, this room was a guest bedroom, but Jing Dan had never bothered with it, let alone furnished it.

But now, leading her to this guest bedroom, what was she supposed to see? Was it possible that Jing Dan intended to leave this room for her, for those times she’d stay over?

To have her own room in Jing Dan’s house?

She bit her lip and chuckled softly, suddenly filled with anticipation for how Jing Dan might have decorated it. Would the decoration cater to her tastes?

“Should I open it?” He Ying asked.

Jing Dan nodded, her heart fluttering with a small sense of pride. She saw the light smile on He Ying’s face and concluded that if He Ying was smiling so happily, she must like it! Jing Dan couldn’t wait to see He Ying’s reaction, imagining her jumping for joy like the women on TV shows, overwhelmed with happiness.

With great anticipation, He Ying carefully placed her hand on the doorknob and gently pressed down.

The door opened.

(If you're not reading on littlepandatranslations.com, it means this has been stolen)

Inside were rows upon rows of wardrobes, arranged with a precision that seemed almost obsessive-compulsive, all lined up along a single line, forming parallel lines that would never intersect.

He Ying, filled with hope: “…”

Nothing.

The smile that had been playing on her lips slowly faded as confusion clouded her thoughts. What was Jing Dan trying to show her with these? Was the point to display how neatly arranged her closet was, or to flaunt the abundance of its contents?

Seeing the disappearing smile on He Ying’s face, Jing Dan’s spirits also began to wane. Didn’t He Ying like it? But wasn’t it said that women tended to enjoy these things more?

“Is this, did you turn this into a walk-in closet?” He Ying asked.

And to think, she had been so full of anticipation. What a letdown.

Jing Dan nodded, her voice slightly muffled, “Your walk-in closet.”

Hearing this, He Ying looked as if she hadn’t heard correctly, her eyes slightly widened, she repeated, “Whose walk-in closet?”

Jing Dan pursed her lips, feeling even more stifled, but still answered her question, “Yours!”

Wasn’t what she said clear enough!

Now completely sure, He Ying, seeing the slightly stifled look in Jing Dan’s eyes, burst into laughter. Suddenly, she reached out and hugged Jing Dan, chuckling softly, “I really like it, I especially like it.”

Jing Dan, suddenly enveloped in He Ying’s embrace, smelling the pleasant faint fragrance on her and feeling the warm, comforting touch, stiffened on the spot.

This was… too intimate…

However, He Ying only hugged her briefly before quickly letting her go and entering the room, starting to examine her own walk-in closet. The more she looked, the more astonished He Ying became. Jing Dan really went all out; any single item here could cause a frenzy of demand if released, she even spotted many limited-edition brands.

She really went to great lengths for this walk-in closet.

Yet, He Ying began to puzzle over the intention behind Jing Dan preparing this walk-in closet for her. Especially such a valuable walk-in closet; the value of everything inside it combined could nearly buy this entire building, couldn’t it?

Jing Dan, still dazed in place after being released: “…”

She only had a moment to relish the touch before He Ying quickly withdrew.

Given such a brief interaction, could it even be considered intimate?

However, seeing the genuine smile reappear on He Ying’s face, she felt all her efforts in researching brands and finding what suited He Ying were not in vain.

“Why did you suddenly think of giving me a wardrobe room?” He Ying turned to ask her. The room was prepared with meticulous detail, with clothing for all seasons, shoes, hats, and even scarves, not to mention dance attire—it was incredibly thoughtful.

So thoughtfully prepared that He Ying began to marvel, even questioning if Jing Dan was truly behind this. Had she really thought through everything so thoroughly? But the compulsive neatness, the lines drawn with such precision, convinced her it was indeed Jing Dan’s handiwork.

Nobody but her could be that obsessive-compulsive.

Jing Dan, fidgeting with the fabric of her trousers, said in a soft voice, “You’ve made me so many delicious things.”

But since she couldn’t return the favor with food, she decided to express her gratitude in this way.

He Ying: “…” All this, just because of that?

She couldn’t help but laugh and cry at the same time, looking at Jing Dan’s genuinely embarrassed expression, and sighed, “Where did that air of taking me for granted as your tool from before disappear to?”

Having gotten used to her, she, on the contrary, started to feel embarrassed to take things for granted anymore.

Jing Dan: “…” She wanted to know that too.

“But now we have a problem,” He Ying said helplessly, spreading her hands, “I don’t live here, so why did you prepare such a big walk-in closet here for me? I can’t possibly run over here every time I need to change clothes, can I?”

Jing Dan: “…”

Right, why didn’t she think of that? How could she have so naturally placed the walk-in closet in her own house?

Seeing Jing Dan’s expression, He Ying could tell that she hadn’t thought this through either. She chuckled, “My place definitely doesn’t have enough space to keep all these things, so I can’t take them back with me.”

When she bought her house, although it was a three-room, considering she lived alone, the rooms weren’t actually that big. Unlike the large flat that Jing Shiyue had prepared for Jing Dan, even the guest room here was bigger than her living room, not to mention Jing Dan’s master bedroom.

Gift-giving gone wrong, Jing Dan: “…”

How did she not realize that there was so much to consider when giving a gift?

Little did Jing Dan realize that her idea of gift-giving was quite unlike anyone else’s. Where most people might present one or two items, she went all out, stocking an entire walk-in closet. How could that be the same?

Seeing Jing Dan’s spirits visibly sag, He Ying couldn’t help but smile tenderly, then teasingly suggested, “You have another room that’s still empty, right? How about you fix that up for me to stay in? You could be my landlord.”

Jing Dan sounded even more disheartened, “…I’ve turned that other room into a study.”

She had the thought to renovate it along with the walk-in closet.

He Ying: “…” It’s changed so much just because I haven’t been here for a while?

Neither found the words to suggest sharing a room. The occasional sleepover was fine, but to share a bed every night? What would that entail?

Resigned, He Ying sighed softly, “I definitely won’t use everything in the walk-in closet, and I think a lot of things in there would suit you too. We could share, right?”

This arrangement would also solve any worries about having a change of clothes when she occasionally stayed over at Jing Dan’s place.

What other choice was there? Jing Dan had no option but to agree to He Ying’s proposal.

What started as a joyous act of gift-giving had led to this somewhat deflated conclusion.

“Alright, receiving such a heartfelt gift makes me really happy,” He Ying stepped forward, lifting her hand to gently rub the furrowed brows of Jing Dan, chuckling softly, “Knowing you put so much heart into this, that alone makes me very happy.”

After all, it was clear that the gifts had been chosen with care; otherwise, they wouldn’t have perfectly matched her aesthetic preferences while also being so suitable for her to wear.

(If you're not reading on littlepandatranslations.com, it means this has been stolen)

“Really?” Jing Dan looked up at her.

“Of course, it’s true. When have I ever lied to you?” He Ying removed her hand from Jing Dan’s forehead and then ruffled her hair, laughing, “I plan to go home for a visit soon. Would you like to come with me? The scenery there is beautiful, especially in the winter. We could go ice skating on the lake.”

“Ice skating on the lake?” Jing Dan’s eyes sparkled slightly.

“Yes, it gets very cold there, and every winter, the lake freezes over with a thick layer of ice. We won’t have to worry about falling into the water at all when we’re skating on the ice.”

“But, can I really go to your home?” Jing Dan asked hesitantly. If she went, and upon meeting He Ying’s family, what if they didn’t like her? Would He Ying distance herself from her because her family disapproved?

Wouldn’t that mean losing such a good friend?

“Of course, you can come to my home,” He Ying said with a gentle smile, her gaze fixed on Jing Dan, softly adding, “I want to take you to see where I grew up.”

Seeing He Ying looking at her so earnestly, Jing Dan hummed in agreement, accepting the invitation.

She was curious about the place where she grew up.

After agreeing, the two of them started to prepare for the things they needed for the trip back home with He Ying. They also had to hand over their work responsibilities at the company. Somehow, Hu Tu got wind of their plan to return home.

Hu Tu was furious! Did their friendship mean nothing? Were they just going to leave her behind to enjoy their couple’s world? She wouldn’t have it!

“I’m going too!” Hu Tu announced with a tone that left no room for argument.

Leaving her all alone in this big winter? She was dying of boredom! And since winter began, that woman Xu Yu just holed up in her house, unwilling to step outside. Without Xu Yu to hang out with, she was practically molding!

He Ying: “…”

With no other choice, He Ying eventually decided to take Hu Tu along with them on the trip home.
