Panda Cub – Chapter 33

Overnight

Jing Dan noticed He Ying’s silence and somewhat blankly looked up at her.

He Ying slowly glanced at her, then lowered her gaze towards those netizens teasing her, not even knowing what she felt at that moment.

For some inexplicable reason, she was saddled with the blame for being unfaithful? Are these netizens now enjoying the drama without worrying about escalating the situation?

Jing Dan across from her, seeing her expression, was quite puzzled. Because of her complexion, even the noise she made while eating lessened quite a bit, tasting of being extremely cautious.

He Ying didn’t bother with her and stood up to walk towards the front right, standing in front of two men, looking at them with a smile that was not quite a smile.

The paparazzi: “…”

He Ying laughed and extended her hand toward them, adopting an amiable demeanor and said: “What else have you snapped? Give it to me.”

Although her demeanor seemed friendly, her attitude didn’t carry a hint of amiability.

Still sitting in her original spot, Jing Dan watched He Ying’s action and popped a small meatball into her mouth.

“It’s not, Miss He, what are you talking about, what snapped what?” One paparazzo looked utterly confused, seemingly genuinely unaware of why she suddenly approached them with such bizarre remarks.

He Ying chuckled lightly: “I really didn’t know I’ve become so famous that just coming out to eat can have people recognizing me. So, stop pretending, the photos online have already given away your location.”

From the angle of the photos posted online, it’s undoubtedly here.

The paparazzo tried to argue back.

He Ying didn’t waste any words, she took out her phone and started taking photos of them, while saying: “I actually want to experience what it feels like to be a paparazzo, to see if it’s really as joyful as it seems.”

Paparazzo: “…”

In the end, He Ying, holding their camera, leisurely scrolled through the photos they took, noticing many pictures that weren’t online, her eyebrows slightly raising.

She decisively deleted all the photos, then asked them, “Do you have any other backups?”

The paparazzo shook his head, speaking tentatively, “No, didn’t have time to back up yet.”

He Ying nodded, handed the camera back to them, and before leaving said, “If I see these photos online again, I wouldn’t mind releasing what I have on my phone.”

Paparazzo: “…Got it.”

Even though they couldn’t add fuel to the fire moving forward, the buzz already generated was enough to make them happy. They weren’t greedy, not greedy.

He Ying walked towards the dining table, seeing Jing Dan holding a soup bowl, slowly drinking, yet her eyes were looking this way.

“…”

Was this guy watching the drama from the sidelines?

She silently walked up to Jing Dan, looked down at her somewhat dazed eyes, and asked, “Is it tasty?”

Jing Dan nodded truthfully, “It’s very tasty.”

She was seriously earnest in her manner.

He Ying: “…” So, it’s so tasty that you don’t even want to walk over and have a look?

She felt both helpless and amused; her temperament, how could it be so similar to that little brat’s.

Thinking of the little cub, she remembered a previous visit to the panda base, initially planning to see that little cub. However, upon arriving, the staff unexpectedly said the little cub had been sent abroad, leased to another country.

Hearing this reason, He Ying didn’t even know how to respond. That little brat went abroad?! Really thought of itself as a regular panda, huh!

But after thinking it through, she felt somewhat lost. Could it be that she’ll never see it again?

Jing Dan, seeing her somewhat distracted, couldn’t understand what was on her mind and put a piece of rib in her bowl.

He Ying: “…” Well, isn’t life just about comings and goings, all travelers?

After finishing the dinner with Jing Dan and seeing the somewhat satisfied Jing Dan, He Ying shook her head, as if it had been a long time since Jing Dan had properly enjoyed a meal.

“Let’s go, drive me back,” He Ying stood up and said.

Jing Dan looked up at her with some confusion and asked, “Didn’t you drive here?” Was she actually expecting her to drive her back?

He Ying’s gaze was deep as she looked at her. Did this person really expect her to take a taxi back alone, then she would just go to sleep by herself?

“I didn’t drive.” Saying this, she pointed to the pile of dishes on the table and said through gritted teeth, “I made you this meal, isn’t that enough for you to drive me back?”

This behavior, it’s just like that white-eyed bear, forgetting about others as soon as it’s fed and satisfied.

Jing Dan blinked, looking at the almost empty plates, and gave an “oh” sound.

He Ying: “…” Seeing her reluctant little look, it seemed she really got herself a ride!

She followed Jing Dan, and when they left the hotel and stood at the door, she thought they were going to wait for someone to bring the car over. Then she saw Jing Dan start fiddling with her phone.

He Ying: “…” If she hadn’t seen it wrong just now, the app Jing Dan opened was a taxi app, right?

“Wait, you didn’t drive here?” He Ying widened her eyes in disbelief, looking at Jing Dan. You didn’t drive, couldn’t you have just said so?!

Jing Dan looked at her a bit blankly and said, “No, it was Xu Zhihuan who picked me up from the company, and I came over in her car.”

As she spoke, her phone made a sound, then she glanced at the screen, lifted her phone to show He Ying, “I hailed a taxi, we have to wait three more minutes.”

At this moment, He Ying didn’t even feel like complaining anymore.

Looking at this stinky kid, she felt the generational gap between them once again. If there’s a generational gap every three years, being 203 years old and Jing Dan being 21, the gap between them could be as wide as a sea!

(If you're not reading on littlepandatranslations.com, it means this has been stolen)

Eventually, their taxi arrived, and following Jing Dan, they both took their seats in the back of the car. He Ying noticed Jing Dan’s slightly furrowed brows and her lips pursed in slight displeasure.

It was evident that she was very uncomfortable in this car.

Indeed, the car was stuffy and had a strange smell. With Jing Dan’s cleanliness, she must be feeling quite uncomfortable inside.

Unfortunately, He Ying couldn’t reveal that she was a spirit in front of her; otherwise, she could have directly teleported back with her.

After some thought, she suggested to the driver to drop Jing Dan off first.

Jing Dan refused, her face stern as she said, “I want to drop you off.”

Since she had already agreed to it earlier, she had to drop He Ying off.

He Ying: “…” Why are you insisting when you shouldn’t?

She sighed. Originally, she wanted to make things easier for her, but if she herself didn’t want it, then it wasn’t her problem anymore.

As the car drove on, Jing Dan unconsciously leaned towards He Ying.

He Ying glanced at her with no reaction. Perhaps because she saw that there was no response from her, Jing Dan became bolder.

Their arms gradually pressed together, and through the thin coat, it seemed like they could feel a bit of the warmth beneath.

Then, Jing Dan’s head rested on He Ying’s shoulder, with the corners of her lips slightly curling up.

Noticing her nose twitching, He Ying: “…”

She didn’t need to harbor any romantic thoughts, because just by seeing her like this, she knew she must have once again become a tool, only this time, a tool to block out the car’s smell.

With an expressionless face, the head on her shoulder remained still now, some hairs lightly brushed her cheek, feeling a bit itchy.

She thought about it and subtly released a spiritual force from her hand at her side, creating an invisible barrier around them that blocked all the unpleasant smells from outside.

Suddenly, Jing Dan felt her breathing become much fresher. Her eyes moved slightly, and she cautiously glanced at the other side of He Ying, having a guess in her heart, but she didn’t speak.

They didn’t chat, and the driver didn’t seem interested in talking to them either, making the car’s cabin extremely quiet. The only sound they could hear was the various honks from traffic jams on the road.

When they arrived downstairs at He Ying’s place, it was already past eleven o’clock. He Ying originally wanted to push Jing Dan away but found that, at some point, Jing Dan had already fallen asleep.

He Ying looked down, observing her closed eyes. Jing Dan’s long eyelashes cast a faint shadow beneath her eyelids, sleeping quite soundly.

She found it somewhat amusing. Nowadays, these young people, one sleeps later than the other, but Jing Dan gets sleepy so early, really like those little kids who need to grow.

Calling her a stinky kid really is like a kid.

Seeing her sleep so soundly, she didn’t want to wake her up, but glancing at the driver still waiting in front, she thought about it and still pinched her face to wake her up, asking her, “It’s so late, do you want to rest at my place?”

Being this sleepy, she really wasn’t at ease letting her take this unfamiliar car back alone, afraid she would fall asleep again halfway through.

Just woken up, Jing Dan’s mind was still a bit fuzzy. Seeing He Ying’s face, she subconsciously nodded.

She had already slept at He Ying’s house for a month, so what could one more night matter.

However, she overlooked one thing. When she previously slept at He Ying’s house, she was in her panda form, a small one at that, barely taking up much space on the bed.

Sitting on the sofa at He Ying’s house, she was still a bit dazed, staring ahead without moving.

He Ying went to find some clothes for her to change into and said, “Take a bath first, you can sleep after that.”

“Oh.” Jing Dan obediently responded, standing up and walking towards the bathroom.

Seeing her act so familiarly, He Ying, who was following behind, paused for a moment before quickly stepping up to help her gather some things.

While Jing Dan was taking a shower, she was busy stripping the bed of its sheets, planning to change them for a new set so that the stinky kid wouldn’t complain about them being used by her.

In the midst of changing the sheets, He Ying sighed softly, feeling like a worried old mother. Despite being in the prime of her life, she found herself fussing over such matters.

When Jing Dan came out of the bath, her long, wet hair still dripping, He Ying saw her and thought: Can’t this stinky kid cause less worry?

He Ying quickly grabbed a dry towel to help her dry her hair, saying earnestly, “The weather is getting cooler now. If you wait until you catch a cold, you’ll suffer!”

Does this person think that just because they’re young, their body is naturally strong?

Jing Dan didn’t speak, silently letting He Ying rub the towel on her head. By the time the towel was removed, her hair had completely poofed out.

He Ying burst out laughing, then immediately met Jing Dan’s resentful gaze and quickly suppressed her laughter. She took a comb to straighten Jing Dan’s hair before starting to blow-dry it.

After blow-drying her hair until it was just slightly damp, she turned off the hairdryer and said, “You rest first, I’m going to take a shower.”

As she walked towards the bathroom, she remembered she hadn’t told her where to sleep yet. Turning back, she saw Jing Dan had already naturally climbed into her bed, lifting the blankets and lying down first.

He Ying: “…” Fine then.

She turned around and went to shower by herself.

Lying in bed, Jing Dan smelled the blanket, which was full of the fresh scent of laundry detergent, no longer holding that familiar smell.

She yawned, burying herself deeper into the pillow. Half-asleep, she felt someone lifting the blanket beside her, and then a person with a warm body temperature came in.

Her consciousness was still blurry, just as she was about to fall back asleep, she suddenly woke up and hurriedly sat up!

Her eyes wide open, she turned her head and stared straight at He Ying.

He Ying was startled by her, still in the motion of about to lie down, their eyes meeting.

Jing Dan: “…”

(If you're not reading on littlepandatranslations.com, it means this has been stolen)

He Ying: “…”

The two were silent, Jing Dan didn’t speak, and He Ying also didn’t understand what she was up to.

In the end, it was He Ying who couldn’t hold the pose any longer, relaxed her body, and lay down, silently watching Jing Dan.

By now, Jing Dan had started to panic in her heart. She realized that whenever she had slept here before, she was in her panda form, but now she was human, and her body size was much bigger than when she was a panda!

What if she touched He Ying while sleeping!

However, at this moment, she had forgotten how, during that one month, she nearly slept on top of He Ying’s stomach with her whole body.

Seeing her staring blankly for so long without speaking, He Ying couldn’t wait any longer and softly said, “Are you going to sleep or not? If not, go to the living room. There’s a sofa you can sleep on.”

Jing Dan: “…” She wants her to sleep on the sofa again!

She tensed her face and lay back down, huffed coldly at He Ying, turned over, and showed her a cold back of the head.

He Ying: “…” Did she upset her again somehow?

She yawned, reached out to turn off the light, and thought, well, do I, an old person, really need to try to understand a child?

She closed her eyes and didn’t speak, just sleeping on her own. It seemed like she didn’t feel any discomfort having another person beside her. This feeling was as familiar as when that little brat was sleeping; it had grown so familiar that it didn’t cause any discomfort.

She wasn’t affected, but the person on the other side, Jing Dan, was. Since lying down, she felt uncomfortable everywhere, tossing and turning for a long time without being able to fall asleep again. In the end, it was only after smelling the calming scent coming from He Ying’s side that she slowly closed her eyes and fell asleep.

The two of them sleeping didn’t even realize that in their unconscious state, they were moving closer to each other.

Upon waking up in the early morning, He Ying felt as if she had sunk into a cloud. Everything around her was soft, yet it held more warmth than a cloud. Even at her neck, there was a warm breath blowing.

He Ying: “…”

She slightly turned her head, looking at the person wrapped around her like an octopus, holding her as if she were a large pillow, with their head buried in her neck, the warm breath naturally hitting her thin and sensitive skin.

This person, once again, overturned He Ying’s understanding of her. Outwardly, she put on a good front, but in private, not only did she love to eat, even this sleeping posture wasn’t any good either. When they went to sleep, there was clearly a galaxy between them!

And this octopus-like entanglement around her somehow reminded her of that little brat, lying on her stomach with her belly exposed without any schemes…

But now the situation was different. When the little brat sprawled on her, she could easily pick her up and move her aside, but being held like this by Jing Dan, she couldn’t easily break free.

This guy also slept deeply, holding her and not letting go at all. She felt that if she wanted to move a little, she could probably wake her up.

She felt somewhat melancholic. Apart from sleeping with her mom when she was little, the only two times she slept with someone else in her life, she met people with bad sleeping positions.

She closed her eyes and meditated, quietly waiting for Jing Dan to wake up. But Jing Dan must have had plenty of sleep when she was little, otherwise, she wouldn’t have grown to her height of 1.75 meters.

Time silently slipped away, and finally, at an unknown moment, Jing Dan’s eyelids wrinkled, finally showing signs of waking up.

After waiting for a few seconds, Jing Dan slowly opened her eyes to darkness. She blinked, slightly dazed, wondering if she had woken up too early and it was still the early morning hours.

Then, she quickly realized something was off. Moving her head, she saw the superior jawline, its lines smooth and clean, and the skin beneath it, shining with the warm glow of white jade.

Jing Dan: “…” She belatedly realized that she was holding He Ying in her arms.

“How come? Not willing to let go?” A lazy voice came from above her head, sounding like the lazy tone one has when just waking up in the morning.

Jing Dan’s face turned red all at once!

She hurriedly let go of He Ying’s hand and then immediately moved back, creating some distance between them.

Just now, before she let go, Jing Dan felt completely surrounded by He Ying’s presence, a kind of comfort and ease she had felt more than once when, as a panda, she slept on her. But now, as a human, she felt a bit embarrassed!

He Ying lazily watched her movements, his gaze then falling on her blush-filled face, his eyes moved slightly, but in the end, he didn’t continue to tease her. Seeing her like that, he probably figured she couldn’t take any more teasing. It seemed like a bit more embarrassment would have her diving under the bed.

He Ying said nothing, very calmly got up from bed as if everything that had happened before didn’t occur, stood by the bedside straightening his sleepwear that got disheveled during sleep, then casually grabbed his hair thinking of tying it up, and very normally asked, “What do you want to eat for breakfast?”

His usual demeanor, with no intention of mentioning what had just happened, silently relieved Jing Dan. She softly said, “Milk, noodles, steamed dumplings, Xiaolongbao.”

He Ying: “…The first three things are possible, but where do you expect me to get Xiaolongbao at this time?”

This guy doesn’t like the Xiaolongbao sold outside, and making them now would take too much time.

“Oh.” Although she agreed, she still looked somewhat disappointed.

He Ying tried her best to ignore her disappointed look and turned to walk towards the bathroom.

After she left, Jing Dan went back to lying down in the bed, burying her face in the pillow, still a bit embarrassed to face what happened earlier!

When He Ying came out, he saw her ostrich-like posture, walked over, casually picked up a pillow, and smashed it on her butt, saying clearly, “Stop playing dead, get up!”

How old are you already, still feeling embarrassed like a child?

He Ying shook her head and turned to leave the bedroom to prepare breakfast.

Jing Dan, who was hit on the butt: “…”

You know, this is very embarrassing!

After He Ying left, she silently got up from the bed to wash up, then she blankly stared at the clothes she changed out of last night. Both of them, it seems, forgot to wash the clothes. No clothes to wash, what does she wear?!

She went out to find He Ying, just about to mention her unwashed clothes, when He Ying handed her a cup of milk, telling her to go aside and not be in the way.

Jing Dan: “…”

Then, drinking the milk, she also forgot about it. Although sitting in the living room drinking milk, her gaze kept looking towards the kitchen, her nose smelling the fragrance of breakfast.

She suddenly remembered that she had said she would make a meal for He Ying. Now that He Ying is back, she could actually carry out this plan.

Determined, she planned to invite He Ying to her house tonight!

(If you're not reading on littlepandatranslations.com, it means this has been stolen)

On the other side, He Ying suddenly shivered. She looked up in confusion, then turned her head to look towards the living room. That guy was drinking milk peacefully; she really couldn’t figure out why she shivered.

She felt somewhat bewildered and turned back to continue making her breakfast.

“Come over, carry the stuff,” He Ying called out, their interaction natural as if they had lived together for many years.

Jing Dan obediently got up to help her bring the stuff out of the kitchen. Looking at the breakfast she ordered on the table, she smiled with her lips pursed, looking somewhat sweet.

He Ying quietly observed her looking like this, feeling that this person only seemed a bit different when it came to food.

At breakfast, He Ying said to Jing Dan, “I won’t have time to make lunch for you today; I need to go visit the dance troupe.”

Although the dance troupe now has a designated person to manage its operations, and she only needs to provide sufficient funds, she still couldn’t help but visit from time to time. If she didn’t go back to see, how would she know whether the money she worked hard to earn was being well spent?

Jing Dan: “…Oh.”

Of course, she couldn’t say much since the other person was going to do something important, but just the thought of having to eat those terrible meals again made her feel a bit down.

He Ying naturally noticed her mood change, but this time she didn’t say anything. After all, Jing Dan always needs to get used to it. He Ying couldn’t possibly cook for her for a lifetime. Jing Dan still had to eat food prepared by others. It’s better for her to start getting used to it now.

During breakfast, the two didn’t talk much. He Ying began to clean up the plates and take them into the kitchen, with Jing Dan following behind her, feeling somewhat awkward and unsure of what to do but also feeling guilty about just sitting there without helping.

He Ying glanced at her, thinking, “Now you know to feel embarrassed? Weren’t you always so righteous before, eating and then not caring about anything?”

“Do you have time tonight? I’d like to invite you over to my place,” Jing Dan suddenly said. It seemed true that He Ying had never been to her place before.

“Oh?” He Ying showed interest, surprised that there came a day when Jing Dan would actually invite her over. She readily agreed.

If she knew what this agreement would lead to, she’d probably wish she could travel back in time and cover her own mouth!
