After Transmigrating into the Villain’s Cat, I Dominated the Entertainment Circle – Chapter 68

Sudden Situation

Cat Endorsement

Luo Ke laughed and wrapped an arm around her. “Alright, I’ll wait for you.”

Lin Sifei, delighted, planted a loud paji1 of a kiss on her cheek. She settled onto Luo Ke’s lap and started talking about her chance encounter with Feng Tingyun earlier that day.

“I don’t think Feng Tingyun has any good feelings for Yan Yafei at all. They’re just teammates.”

Luo Ke was more cautious. “Did Lu Heng ever mention his past with Feng Tingyun to you? They haven’t seen each other in four years, but they don’t seem like strangers. It’s a little strange.”

“Are you saying that neither Feng Tingyun nor Lu Heng can be trusted?”

Seeing the frown on Lin Sifei’s face, Luo Ke knew she wanted to be friends with Lu Heng. A sour feeling crept into her heart. “Of course it’s fine to want to be friends, but for now, just keep your guard up a little.”

“Okay,” Lin Sifei agreed with a smile.

After a bit more playful banter, Lin Sifei’s phone rang. It was the film crew’s publicity department, asking if she had signed with an agency.

Lin Sifei remembered at once and shook Luo Ke’s shoulder urgently. “Quick, quick, let me sign a contract first.”

Luo Ke had Zhao Min contact Ju Luo Culture2 and send over a contract.

Lin Sifei examined it carefully and found the terms to be quite generous. She figured Luo Ke probably wouldn’t rest easy until she signed, so she put her name on it without hesitation.

With the contract signed, all that was left was for Ju Luo Culture to assign her an agent. But given her special status, the agent would likely just handle professional matters, while Li Jing would probably take care of her day-to-day affairs.

“A couple of days ago, I had someone keep an eye on Yan Yafei’s movements,” Luo Ke said. “They reported her TV drama is about to air. Do you need me to apply some pressure?”

Lin Sifei’s eyes went wide. “You hired someone to watch her?”

“Mhm. I own a few entertainment companies, after all. Finding a few people is easy.”

Lin Sifei silently held back tears. This is the power of money!

“Don’t pressure them,” Lin Sifei said, sniffing emotionally. “She’s just a supporting character. It would be too cruel to the lead actors. Besides, if Yan Yafei is truly talented, suppressing this one show won’t do any good. She’ll just hit rock bottom and rebound3 one day, and she’ll be even harder to deal with then.”

Luo Ke thought about Yan Yafei’s inexplicable female protagonist’s halo4, which always seemed to attract helpers out of nowhere, and agreed with Lin Sifei’s logic.

“Don’t worry,” Lin Sifei said, wrapping her arms around Luo Ke’s neck. “Once my movie is out, it’ll definitely overshadow her. You just wait and see. I’m amazing.”

“I believe you,” Luo Ke laughed, squeezing her waist and leaning in to kiss her.

Luo Ke’s information was accurate. The drama Yan Yafei was in had indeed entered its promotional period. Although she was only a supporting actress, her character was well-written and she was attractive, so she quickly started gaining fans.

Lin Sifei puffed up her cheeks and let out a couple of soft heng heng5 sounds. Once my movie is released, I can do that too!

A competitive spark ignited within her, and she threw herself into her fitness routine, determined to be in her absolute best shape for the movie’s promotional tour.

Luo Ke sat nearby, working, and watched as Lin Sifei transformed into a cat and hopped onto the treadmill again.

She looked over, exasperated. “Aren’t you tired? Come down and rest for a bit.”

Lin Sifei’s four paws were a blur of motion. She glanced back at Luo Ke, shook her head, and kept running.

When the cat’s workout was finally over, Lin Sifei’s paws felt like soft noodles, and she collapsed onto the floor in a heap.

Luo Ke chuckled, scooped her up, and placed her on the desk. “What’s with the sudden diligence? What are you plotting?”

Miao~” Lin Sifei lifted a paw toward her.

Luo Ke took hold of her soft little meat pads6. Lin Sifei seemed to smile, letting her paw rest in Luo Ke’s hand as she flopped down like a salted fish7, completely at ease.

Luo Ke bent down and kissed her on the forehead, nuzzling her fluffy cheeks. “I warmed up some goat’s milk for you. Rest for a bit, then get up and drink it.”

Lin Sifei nodded, pulling Luo Ke’s hand closer to her chest.

As Luo Ke was taking a sip of water, her phone vibrated again. She glanced at the screen and frowned. “Zhao Min. I think there’s trouble at the company.”

“Hello?” The moment Luo Ke answered, Zhao Min’s sharp voice burst from the other end.

“President Luo, this is bad! The brand ambassador for our jewelry line has been exposed in a scandal. His endorsement is being boycotted, and it’s affecting the sales of the entire jewelry line.”

Luo Ke’s brow twitched. “It’s just a little collateral damage. Is that really worth you making such a fuss?”

Zhao Min stammered, “Well, actually… it’s because the manager of our official Weibo account8 is a fan, and they got into an argument with netizens. Now our brand image is taking a hit.”

Listening from the side, Lin Sifei was completely baffled. In her previous world, netizens didn’t have this much power. She changed back into her human form and moved closer to Luo Ke.

Luo Ke saw her and knew she had something to say. She told Zhao Min to gather the public relations department for a meeting first.

After hanging up, Luo Ke turned to Lin Sifei. “What’s on your mind, you little clever ghost9?”

Lin Sifei stuck out her tongue. “I was just going to say, are netizens here really that powerful? Jewelry is expensive. Buyers care more about quality, design, and brand reputation. Even if a large number of netizens call for a boycott, very few of them are actual customers.”

It was Luo Ke’s turn to be surprised.

“What do you mean? Online public opinion10 has a huge impact. Plenty of companies have gone bankrupt because of it.”

Lin Sifei’s expression was hard to explain in one sentence11. She raised a hand. “Alright, then.” It was probably an effect of this being a world in a book. Everyone was online, and everyone was perpetually outraged.

Seeing her reaction, Luo Ke guessed the reason. “It’s because this is a book that revolves around the female protagonist, so the world is set up to work in her favor, right?”

“Not at all,” Lin Sifei said, puffing out her chest defiantly. “You can only say the direction and degree of development are different. Your world’s internet developed faster. The internet has a big impact where I’m from too, it’s just that the entertainment industry doesn’t usually have that much influence.”

She patted Luo Ke’s shoulder, afraid she would become disheartened by the nature of her world.

Luo Ke smiled and hugged her. “Don’t worry about me. I grew up in this world. To me, this is all normal.”

“Then you should hurry up and get to your PR meeting,” Lin Sifei said, squishing Luo Ke’s cheeks with both hands. “If the entertainment industry has that much sway, aren’t you worried your company will actually collapse?”

Luo Ke laughed. “Relax. The main problem is the person running the official account. They brought personal emotions into their work. We’ll penalize them, issue an apology, and then discuss terminating the contract with the celebrity’s team. It’ll be fine.”

That solution was indeed the simplest and most effective. When a celebrity was tainted by scandal, it was normal for the endorsing company to terminate the contract.

Luo Ke looked at her. “Do you want to come with me?”

Lin Sifei nodded eagerly. “I’ll go rinse off and change. I’ll be quick.”

She shot upstairs, jumped into the shower for a quick rinse to wash off the sweat from her workout, and emerged wrapped in a towel.

Luo Ke had already picked out an outfit for her. After changing, she was ready to go.

Lin Sifei sat in the passenger seat, buckled her seatbelt, and tried to calm her racing heart.

Luo Ke saw her taking deep breaths and smiled helplessly. “I told you there was no rush, but you insisted on running out.”

Lin Sifei shook her head with a grin. “Hey, I’m just making up for the time I spent in the shower.”

She tilted her head, trying to look cute, then faced forward again, working hard to suppress the unease in her chest.

Why do I feel so weird? Did I really just run too fast earlier?

By the time they arrived at the company, the public relations department had already prepared several proposals. Some suggested they wait quietly for the storm to blow over, some wanted to release a new product to bury the news, and others wanted to offer a sincere apology.

Luo Ke had them vote. The second option received the most support.

“Explain your reasoning,” Luo Ke said, seated at the head of the table.

Someone quickly spoke up. “Public opinion is so volatile right now, we have to respond. If we immediately sign a new ambassador and promote this season’s new products without giving a clear response to either side, people will naturally lean toward what they want to believe. That way, we don’t offend anyone.”

Those who agreed with the plan nodded.

Looking at the compiled online data, Luo Ke saw that in metrics related to the ambassador, the proportion of anger was far higher than affection. However, the affection value hadn’t decreased compared to past data; in fact, it had also increased.

She pointed to the screen. “As it stands, the ambassador’s fans are still around, and there are a lot of them. Offending them right now would not be a wise move.”

Many people nodded in agreement. That was definitely a point to consider.

Lin Sifei sat next to Zhao Min, pretending to be an assistant. Hearing this, she frowned slightly. She had glanced at the online comments earlier. The people behind this boycott clearly weren’t from within the fan circle12, but they seemed to know a thing or two about how it worked.

Trying to please both sides often ends up offending both.

Luo Ke was clearly worried about this as well. “This plan has a major flaw. Many people want us to take a clear stance. An ambiguous attitude could very well turn us into a punching bag13 for both sides. We’d fail to please anyone and damage our corporate reputation in the process.”

The charge of damaging the company’s reputation was a heavy one. No one dared to speak up, afraid of taking responsibility.

Tapping her fingers on the tabletop, Luo Ke made her decision. “Immediately cut ties with the ambassador and deal with the employee who mishandled their duties. Issue an apology for the operator’s lack of professionalism, and only for that.”

With clear instructions, the PR department immediately assigned someone to draft the statement.

Some were still worried about offending the fans, but Luo Ke’s word was law14 at the company. No one dared to object.

“Next, I want you to monitor the online situation in real-time and subtly guide people to defend the company. Manager Li, go negotiate with the ambassador’s agency and terminate the endorsement contract as soon as possible. Manager Wang, find a new ambassador.”

Everyone nodded. The appointed Manager Wang raised his hand. “President Luo, it’s going to be very difficult to find a suitable ambassador on such short notice. The jewelry line requires someone well-known with high public approval. Those types of celebrities command high fees, and at a time like this, it’ll be hard to find anyone willing to take the job.”

“Do your best to contact people. As soon as we find someone, we’ll launch the new product,” Luo Ke ordered, then raised a hand to dismiss the meeting.

Back in the conference room, Luo Ke was still looking over data on her tablet. They had to react quickly, or someone would pounce on the opportunity to shift the blame from the ambassador to the company.

Lin Sifei pushed off the floor with the tip of her toe, gliding her chair over to Luo Ke’s side.

“You really need to find an ambassador quickly. A new product launch can divert some of the attention and, with the right guidance, generate its own traffic. The ambassador’s team won’t want to give up that traffic, so they’ll back off.”

“It really is hard to find someone,” Luo Ke said, pinching the bridge of her nose.

Zhao Min’s eyes darted back and forth before she leaned in. “President Luo, didn’t Xiao Xiao do a magazine shoot a while back? Why don’t we just have Xiaoxiao be the new face? People these days have very little tolerance for other people, but their tolerance for pets is incredibly high.”

Hearing this, Lin Sifei’s eyes widened. Luo Ke looked at her too, a small smile playing on her lips. I think that could work.

Lin Sifei scratched her head. “Alright, fine.”

Luo Ke patted her on the head. “I’ll treat you to a feast when we get home.”

Lin Sifei reluctantly accepted.

Sitting behind them, Zhao Min was bewildered. ??? Has President Luo become so henpecked15 that she has to ask permission to use her own cat?

While she was still puzzling over it, Luo Ke glanced at her. “Go have the copywriting team prepare a good draft.”

Lin Sifei quickly raised her hand. “The main copy should be for a piece of jewelry that expresses apology. It’ll fit the theme and let us leech off the traffic16.”

“Got it.” Zhao Min scurried out to relay the orders.

Lin Sifei looked at Luo Ke. “I’ll have to go out and then change into a cat, right?”

“Go to my office. We’ll just say you were sleeping in the lounge, and that the cat was brought to the office from the start.”

Lin Sifei nodded.

After she emerged from the office as a cat, a company manager was already running over to report that the photography studio and the new products were ready.

At the studio, Lin Sifei followed the same routine as her magazine shoot. She hopped onto the platform first, letting the photographer take a few close-up face-shots17 for promotion before moving on to the photos with the jewelry.

Time was tight, so Lin Sifei didn’t make a fuss like last time and just had Luo Ke act as her assistant. Whatever the photographer said, Luo Ke would provide cover and help adjust her pose.

After a few shots were taken, they had enough for the initial promotion.

Miao~” Lin Sifei pawed at Luo Ke.

Luo Ke understood instantly. “Which piece is the one that expresses apology?”

The manager was sweating bullets. “The designer went to get it. That design concept wasn’t part of this new collection. It just so happened that a designer had a piece with that concept, so we bought the copyright.”

Luo Ke frowned. “Where’s the copyright contract? How long is the licensing period?”

“The licensing period is ten years.”

“Ten years is a bit short.”

The manager gave an awkward laugh. “We can always renegotiate.”

Luo Ke took a deep, frustrated breath. “Take the photos of the jewelry first. I’ll talk to the designer about the contract again. We won’t use the images until there are no issues.”
