Good Night, Shushu
If you laugh again, you’re not allowed to sleep in my room.
Shen Man drove to the bottom of Lin Shu’s apartment building.
She turned her head, a faint smile touching her lips as she looked at that beautiful, peaceful sleeping face.
Lin Shu slowly opened her eyes and asked drowsily, “Why is it so dark outside? How long was I asleep?”
As she spoke, she turned to her side, her long eyelashes fluttering adorably.
“You slept for two hours.” Shen Man chuckled, reaching out to brush the stray hairs from Lin Shu’s forehead.
She said softly, “Do you want to sleep a little longer?”
Lin Shu shook her head, pouting her red lips as she whispered, “Why didn’t you wake me up?”
“I saw how soundly Shushu was sleeping and couldn’t bear to disturb you,” Shen Man said dotingly, leaning over to unbuckle the seatbelt around Lin Shu’s waist.
As the fresh scent drew closer, Lin Shu let out a delicate huff.
She looked up and affectionately nuzzled her face against Shen Man’s.
The smile on Shen Man’s lips widened, and she took the opportunity to give Lin Shu a kiss.
Lin Shu’s face flushed red. Now fully awake, she opened the car door and said, “There’s no food in the fridge. Do you want to go grocery shopping?”
“I’ve already ordered groceries for delivery. They’re in the trunk,” Shen Man said, getting out and walking to the rear of the car.
She opened the trunk and lifted the groceries with one hand.
Lin Shu stood by the car, waiting.
Shen Man naturally reached out and took Lin Shu’s hand.
The two of them walked side-by-side toward the building entrance.
Once inside, Shen Man did a simple tidying up and started making dinner.
Lin Shu sat on the living room sofa, tilting her head to look toward the kitchen.
Listening to the sounds coming from the kitchen, she felt a deep sense of peace and stability in her heart.
Shen Man quickly finished cooking and set the bowls and chopsticks on the table.
Watching Lin Shu sit down, she asked with a smile, “Shushu, where am I sleeping tonight?”
Hearing those words, which felt as if she had heard them before, Lin Shu’s face flushed red.
With her mouth full of rice, she mumbled, “Wherever.”
Hearing this, Shen Man’s eyes curved into a beautiful arc.
An ambiguous smile shone from her half-lidded eyes as she said in a low voice, “Let’s get to bed early today. I have to go to the office tomorrow, and I need to be there a bit earlier on the first day.”
“Whatever you want,” Lin Shu said, her cheeks puffed out in a huff.
Shen Man couldn’t help but let out a soft laugh. She leaned in close and breathed against Lin Shu’s ear, “Shushu, hurry up and take a shower after you finish eating.”
“Didn’t you just say you weren’t going to do anything?” Lin Shu asked, annoyed.
The moment the words left her mouth, she realized her mistake, and her fair little face instantly turned a beautiful, tempting shade of pink.
“Shushu is so cute,” Shen Man said, her voice low with laughter.
“Don’t laugh.” Lin Shu was both angry and shy. She covered Shen Man’s lips with her hand. “If you laugh again, you’re not allowed to sleep in my room.”
Shen Man nodded obediently.
She suppressed the smile on her lips, but the laughter in her eyes was impossible to contain.
Lin Shu pulled her hand back and ate with her head down, still annoyed.
She ate faster than usual and, after swallowing her last mouthful of rice, announced, “I’m done.”
“Okay,” Shen Man replied with a smile.
Lin Shu shot her a glare and walked haughtily1 toward the bedroom.
By the time Shen Man had finished cleaning the kitchen, Lin Shu was already done washing up.
She quickly took a shower herself and changed into a bathrobe.
Lin Shu was lying on the bed, the blanket covering her to her waist, revealing a fragrant shoulder and a beautiful collarbone.
Shen Man walked over with a smile, her long, slender fingertips landing on that slim waist and tracing a path up the smooth, delicate skin.
Their eyes met.
Lin Shu took the initiative, wrapping her arms around Shen Man’s long, fair neck. She gave that bright red lip a light bite and whispered, “That’s for teasing me.”
Shen Man let out a soft laugh, her eyes half-closed as she deepened the kiss.
Lin Shu felt the air being gradually drawn from her body, her reason slipping away bit by bit.
Her red lips parted slightly, her eyes grew watery, and the upturned corners of her eyes began to flush red.
After they’d tossed and turned for a while, Lin Shu felt like her body wasn’t even her own.
She lay there in a daze, her fair skin stained everywhere with a gorgeous crimson.
Shen Man gave them both a quick wipe-down and turned off the bedroom light.
The room was plunged into darkness.
Lin Shu blinked, subconsciously leaning closer to the person beside her.
Shen Man reached out, wrapping her arm around Lin Shu’s soft, pliant body.
Holding her gently, she planted a kiss on her forehead and said, “Shushu, good night.”
“Good night,” Lin Shu responded in a hoarse voice.
After a night’s rest, Shen Man got up early to prepare breakfast.
When Lin Shu woke up, the first thing she smelled was the fragrant aroma wafting from the kitchen.
Her sleepiness vanished in an instant. She got out of bed to wash up.
Seeing the kiss marks on her neck in the mirror, Lin Shu’s face flushed with embarrassment.
She picked out a high-collared shirt that barely managed to cover the red marks.
After breakfast, Shen Man cleared the table.
Looking at Lin Shu, she said softly, “Shushu, you should go ahead. I’ll take a taxi to work later.”
“It’s not like I can’t give you a ride. Why would you take a taxi?” Lin Shu retorted, her tone laced with dissatisfaction.
“I’m just worried about other people seeing us. It wouldn’t look good,” Shen Man explained with a smile.
Hearing that, Lin Shu finally let go of her awkwardness and walked out with her bag.
Just before leaving, she turned back and said loudly in a haughty tone, “Don’t be late.”
“Okay,” Shen Man replied with a light laugh.
Lin Shu drove to the company.
She sat in the President’s Office, a thoughtful look on her face.
Her secretary stood to the side, smiling as she asked carefully, “Chairman Lin, you’re very early today.”
“It’s only because I thought she would be up early,” Lin Shu replied, her voice carrying a hint of coquettishness.
The secretary froze, finding it hard to believe the tone she had just heard.
She was about to ask more but immediately fell silent when she met Lin Shu’s cold gaze.
“Have the new hires arrived today?” Lin Shu asked coldly.
“It’s still early before work starts, so they probably haven’t,” the secretary answered after a glance at the time.
Lin Shu frowned, her pretty face unable to hide her irritation.
The secretary had no idea what she’d said wrong and asked cautiously, “Chairman Lin, have you had breakfast? I can go buy some for you.”
“No need,” Lin Shu said coldly. “Go prepare for today’s morning meeting.”
“Yes, Chairman Lin.” The secretary let out a sigh of relief and quickly left.
Lin Shu sat for a while longer before she couldn’t resist calling Shen Man.
The moment the call connected, she said, “Why aren’t you here yet?”
“I went back to my place to get my car. I’m on my way now, so I should make it,” Shen Man answered with a laugh.
“It’s your first day. You’ll definitely get chewed out if you’re late,” Lin Shu said, relaxing into her chair and unbuttoning the top button of her shirt, looking like she was ready for a good show.
“As long as Chairman Lin doesn’t fire me, I’ll be fine,” Shen Man said playfully.
Hearing this, a triumphant look colored Lin Shu’s features. She said slowly, “Well, that depends on your performance. If you don’t pass your probationary period, I can’t help you.”
“Don’t worry, Shushu. I’ll definitely become a permanent employee ahead of schedule,” Shen Man said confidently.
“Alright then. Drive safely, don’t rush, and let me know when you arrive,” Lin Shu reminded her.
“Okay,” Shen Man agreed with a smile, then hung up to focus on driving.
The traffic wasn’t bad, and Shen Man arrived at the company one minute before the start of the workday.
The person in charge of reception was about to complain, but when she saw Shen Man’s coolly beautiful face, she couldn’t utter a single word of reprimand. Instead, she broke into a wide smile and began explaining the job duties.
“Manager Shen, let’s add each other on Weixin2. If there’s anything you don’t understand, you can ask me privately,” the receptionist said with a smile.
“Work matters should be discussed on the company’s Weixin.” A cold voice suddenly came from behind them.
The receptionist didn’t even need to turn around to know it was Lin Shu.
She jumped in fright, spinning around and nodding hastily. “Yes, Chairman Lin.”
Lin Shu’s gaze fell on Shen Man, her eyes filled with an icy chill that carried a heavy warning.
“You’re the new hire today, right?” she asked, her expression haughty.
Shen Man smiled lightly and nodded. “Chairman Lin, good morning.”
Lin Shu gave a cold nod and led a group of upper management toward the conference room.
Once Lin Shu’s figure disappeared, the receptionist clutched her chest in lingering fear and whispered, “Why did Chairman Lin show up so suddenly? That scared me to death.”
“You’re actually not afraid of Chairman Lin,” she said, looking at Shen Man in surprise. “Let me tell you a secret: our Chairman Lin is famously cold and ruthless.”
“Is that so?” Shen Man put on a matching expression of shock, her eyes wide with innocence. “Chairman Lin is so beautiful. She can’t be that fierce, can she?”
“She’s incredibly fierce. You’d better put in twelve points of spirit3 and never slack off. Otherwise, if Chairman Lin catches you, you won’t have to come in tomorrow,” the receptionist said seriously.
Shen Man smiled, nodding with a naive expression on her face.
The morning’s task was to get familiar with the company.
Without needing the receptionist to teach her, Shen Man could fluently recite all sorts of company information on her own.
The receptionist had no choice but to move the afternoon’s schedule up.
Watching the composure and calm in Shen Man’s eyes as she studied seriously, she had the strange feeling that this person might be even more terrifying than Lin Shu.
“Are there any other arrangements for today?” Shen Man asked, setting the documents aside. Her cool voice carried a natural, oppressive aura.
The receptionist’s heart skipped a beat. She said nervously, “Manager Shen, you learn so fast. Why don’t you take a break and review it all one more time?”
“No need.” Shen Man smiled faintly, a hint of indifference swirling in her shrewd eyes. “I remember you’re a team leader in this department. Since I have some time, let’s gather everyone for a meeting.”
“Everyone’s busy. Why don’t you wait until you’re officially hired to chat with everyone?” the receptionist said tactfully.
The corner of Shen Man’s lips curled up, her face holding an unquestionable chill. “It’s ten o’clock now. The meeting will end at ten-thirty.”
“If anyone doesn’t show up, it means they don’t support my work, and I will personally go and invite them.”
Hearing the threat in her words, the receptionist didn’t dare refuse any longer and quickly went to notify the entire department.
Shen Man waited for three minutes. Only a small, scattered group of people had arrived.
They all had lazy attitudes, and some were even complaining under their breath.
“It’s Manager Shen’s first day, and she’s already putting on such airs. Even our last manager didn’t have such an air of official might4 when he arrived,” one person said with a laugh.
As soon as he spoke, others chimed in with jeers and laughter.
Shen Man’s expression didn’t change.
She threw a thick stack of documents onto the table, making a loud Pa!5 sound.
The laughter in the crowd died instantly. One by one, they looked at Shen Man, their faces full of defiance.
The rest of the people slowly trickled in. It took nearly twenty minutes for everyone to finally arrive.
