I Pursued My Scummy Ex’s White Moonlight – Chapter 124

Extra Chapter

At noon, one year later.

Wang Xuan was pulling Lin Wan along to eat out. Halfway through their meal, she saw a handsome, blond-haired, blue-eyed guy walk into the restaurant. Her eyes were glued to him, and she didn’t notice at all that Lin Wan, beside her, had already started to frown.

Wang Xuan recognized this handsome guy. His name was Ao Ge, and he was friends with Su Wenwen. The last time Wang Xuan had seen Ao Ge, she had wanted to get his contact information but was too embarrassed to ask Su Wenwen. She never expected to run into him again today.

Ao Ge spoke with the restaurant owner, then found a window seat and sat down. The sunlight hit him just right, as if plating him in a layer of golden light. Paired with his full head of blond hair, in Wang Xuan’s eyes, he looked like solid gold, exuding an air of “nobility.”

Ao Ge didn’t order any food. He seemed to be waiting for someone, glancing at his watch from time to time.

Seeing the look of anticipation in his eyes, it was clear he was waiting for a woman he fancied. Wang Xuan let out a little “awoo,” feeling like she’d just had her heart broken.

If she had known, she shouldn’t have hesitated.

Over the past year, Wang Xuan had gone out on many missions but had never met a man who caught her fancy so much. A pity that a famous flower has a master1.

Just then, Su Wenwen and Luo Xi walked into the restaurant holding hands. When Ao Ge saw them, his eyes lit up, and he hurriedly waved at the two of them.

“Over here, over here! I saved you a spot,” Ao Ge said with a grin.

Huh? So he wasn’t waiting for a woman he fancied?

Wang Xuan subconsciously waved to Su Wenwen and Luo Xi as well. After they noticed her, everyone decided to just combine tables and eat together.

Wang Xuan had met Ao Ge before, but Ao Ge didn’t know her, so Su Wenwen made introductions.

Su Wenwen noticed that Wang Xuan’s gaze was fixed on Ao Ge, while Lin Wan, sitting to the side, was silent and didn’t seem to be in a very good mood.

She smiled thoughtfully, as if seeing her past self, hesitating and wavering in the face of such feelings.

However, although Wang Xuan often went to the lab to hang out with Lin Wan, she only ever saw Lin Wan as a friend. She was a straight girl who couldn’t possibly be any straighter. Perhaps this was the reason for Lin Wan’s wavering, too.

Afraid that if she spoke up, they wouldn’t even be friends anymore.

“Hey handsome, let’s exchange contact info so we can get to know each other better!” Wang Xuan said to Ao Ge.

Ao Ge was quite open about it and exchanged contact information with Wang Xuan. She2 stared at him without blinking, and seeing this, Lin Wan could only sigh quietly.

It wasn’t the first time Ao Ge had been stared at like this by a woman, so he didn’t think much of it. After all, a goddess already lived in his heart, and he wasn’t interested in any woman besides her.

A pity the goddess already had a master.

Seeing Luo Xi placing food on Su Wenwen’s plate3, Ao Ge really wanted to find a corner to cry in secret.

“Our Ao family has used the potion to develop a bullet that targets zombies. As long as it enters any part of a zombie’s body, it can effectively eradicate the virus within. The advantage is obvious: ordinary people can use it, allowing them to play a major role on missions. The disadvantage is also obvious: it can’t break through the defenses of high-level zombies.”

In the past year, the potion had become widespread among all survivors. Furthermore, when going out on missions, the base would provide three vials of the potion as standard issue for everyone, in case they were bitten and didn’t have time to administer it.

As things stood, the most difficult zombies to deal with were the aerial-type ones. Survivors still had no way to effectively strike them with precision. However, there weren’t many aerial zombies, so for the time being, survivors and zombies maintained a delicate balance.

The zombies evolved outside, while the survivors lived and multiplied inside the base, researching effective methods of attack. Therefore, the bullet developed by Ao Ge was an extremely important breakthrough.

It would allow the survivors to suppress the zombies and slowly retake control of the world. This process might take hundreds or even thousands of years, but humans have a refusal to admit defeat in their bones. They believed that sooner or later, they would see the peaceful and prosperous world of the past once more.

“Wow, your Ao family is amazing! For the next mission, can I apply to the Commander-in-Chief for these weapons?” Wang Xuan asked, her eyes sparkling as she looked at Ao Ge.

Ao Ge smiled, a little embarrassed. “Of course you can. It would be best if you could tell me your thoughts after using them. If you feel there are any shortcomings, tell me those as well, and I’ll work on improving them.”

“Okay! We’ll keep in touch by phone then.”

Wang Xuan and Ao Ge were chatting and laughing, leaving Lin Wan completely ignored. Su Wenwen tugged on Wang Xuan’s sleeve several times to no avail. Seeing her best friend completely smitten with Ao Ge, she sighed helplessly.

When it came to matters of the heart, it was best to follow its own nature4. Su Wenwen felt it wasn’t her place to intervene.

The next second, Lin Wan stood up, said, “I’m not feeling well,” and ran out of the restaurant.

Wang Xuan froze for a moment, then subconsciously got up to chase after her. Seeing her friend’s panicked back, Su Wenwen thought to herself that perhaps… her friend’s feelings for Lin Wan were also special.

After dinner, Su Wenwen and Luo Xi went home. They were now living with Father Su and Mother Su. Ji Qingshuang and Luo Ling would also come stay over when they weren’t busy, so the house they lived in was very large, with six bedrooms alone.

The house also had a spacious backyard, which Father Su and Mother Su used for planting. The seeds were a new variety cultivated by Lin Wan. They could sprout in seven days and bear fruit in a month, but they also rotted quickly. For now, there was no need to specially preserve them, because as soon as the produce was harvested, Father Su and Mother Su would share it with the neighbors to eat, and then continue planting.

The neighbors were very fond of them and would sometimes bring over delicious food, never just taking without giving back.

Sometimes when the neighbors were away on missions, they would entrust their backyard plots to Father Su and Mother Su’s care. When they returned alive, they would give them a generous payment.

They didn’t need Su Wenwen to support them at all.

As soon as the two of them got home, they saw Luo Ling sitting on the sofa, complaining to Father Su and Mother Su. “My little sister has really forgotten all about her big brother now that she has a wife. Yesterday, I cooked for her and accidentally cut my finger. She clearly saw the cut on my hand but just ignored it! She doesn’t care about me at all, boo hoo…”

“Wasn’t it because you didn’t want to cook, so you cut your finger on purpose?” Luo Xi retorted with a cold look.

Luo Ling retorted, “How could I be unwilling to cook for you? I cut my finger on purpose just to see if you cared about me! Hmph, I can’t believe you didn’t even look. You forget favors and betray righteousness.”

“If it was on purpose, then you deserved it.”

Luo Ling’s eyes drooped. He turned to Su Wenwen to complain aggrievedly, “Meixi5, your wife is bullying me.”

Su Wenwen shrugged, looking as if her love could not help6. She didn’t have what it took to deal with Luo Xi. She knew that if she actually tried, Luo Xi would get her back twice as bad at night. She would be the one to suffer in the end, so why bother?

“Alright, let’s talk business.”

Only then did Luo Ling’s expression turn serious. “Mom’s birthday is coming up. Last year, the base was just starting to get back on its feet, so we couldn’t celebrate it for her. This year, I want to hold a birthday banquet for her, just the few of us, quietly. How about it?”

“Okay.”

For the sake of the base, Ji Qingshuang had no personal life to speak of. Forget birthdays—even coming home to live with them was a luxury.

So this time, before the birthday banquet, Luo Xi and Su Wenwen stayed by Ji Qingshuang’s side at work, striving to free up her schedule for her birthday.

Luo Ling was in charge of decorations, while Father Su and Mother Su were in charge of the food. The two elders were excellent cooks and didn’t need to ask anyone else for help.

Everyone worked together towards a single goal. Ji Qingshuang didn’t notice a thing, her mind completely focused on the newly developed bullets from the Ao family.

Before they could be mass-produced, they had to be tested. The only squad going out recently was Wang Kelin and Chen Zixuan’s, so Ji Qingshuang contacted them and had them take the newly developed bullets on their mission.

The current communication equipment could also be used outside the base, but there was a time delay in receiving and transmitting messages of about one hour.

A few days later, Ji Qingshuang received a message from the two of them. The bullets were extremely effective. Killing ordinary zombies was no problem, and when facing high-defense zombies, it was possible to use a special ability to get the bullet into the zombie’s body.

This was good news.

Ji Qingshuang finally leaned back in her chair, relaxed, and announced the news to Su Wenwen and Luo Xi.

Hearing this, the two exchanged a look. Then Su Wenwen said, “That’s great! In that case, can you take a good break today and come home for a meal with us to celebrate?”

Ji Qingshuang smiled. “Okay.”

With the burden on her shoulders a little lighter, Ji Qingshuang also wanted to rest for a few days. She got in the car and followed the two of them home.

The lights at the entrance were off. Looking through the window, it seemed no one was home. Ji Qingshuang was puzzled. “Wenwen, are your parents not home?”

“They might have gone out for a walk.”

Su Wenwen shot Luo Xi a look. Luo Xi looked at Ji Qingshuang’s hand, hesitated for a moment, but instead of taking it, she went to open the door.

Su Wenwen had no choice but to grab Ji Qingshuang’s hand herself and pull her inside.

The door closed, and it was black lamps and blind fire7.

Ji Qingshuang was a little confused. “What’s going on with you two? Why aren’t the lights on?”

A faint candlelight flickered to life. Father Su, Mother Su, and Luo Ling emerged from the kitchen, pushing a cake trolley and singing the birthday song.

It was a simple song, yet they sang it with a melodious and moving tone. Ji Qingshuang stood frozen in place, afraid that the sound of her footsteps would interrupt the song.

She had been strong-willed her entire life. Even when Luo Xi’s father died, she was able to quickly adjust her mentality and do what needed to be done. So in Luo Xi’s eyes, she was a cold and heartless mother. To her father-in-law, she was the weak daughter-in-law of the Luo family.

In the eyes of the survivors, she was the gentle and intelligent Commander-in-Chief, more like a god than a person—one who never cried and had no emotions.

Until Luo Xi whispered in her ear, “Mom, I’m sorry. Please forgive the ignorant me of the past.”

Tears streamed down uncontrollably. Only then did Ji Qingshuang realize that tears could be so scalding and intense, and that being understood by her own child could bring such gratification.

It wasn’t that Ji Qingshuang didn’t care; it was that she cared too much, which was why she chose to face Luo Xi’s accusations with an attitude of indifference.

Luo Xi hugged Ji Qingshuang, freeing one hand to hold Su Wenwen’s, and said, “From now on, our family will all be okay.”

Even if the terrifying apocalypse never ended, they would never be separated. They would rely on each other, help each other, and grow together, forever.

LP: … This is the last chapter?!

Hmm… I rate this novel 4/5!

I can’t articulate this well, but I like that Su Wenwen isn’t OP and things are realistic… except for some things, of course.

I just need more romance and sugar!
