I Pursued My Scummy Ex’s White Moonlight – Chapter 71

Helian Yun’s Choice

Su Wenwen had a lot of free time these past few days and often spent it with Ji Qingshuang. Ji Qingshuang was also troubled by the impending severe winter. Meteorological experts had predicted that in half a month, the temperature would plummet and there would be a blizzard. The base had to stockpile a large amount of supplies before the blizzard arrived to ensure that the elderly and children would not freeze to death in the weather.

Fortunately, Ji Qingshuang had prepared in advance, ordering Wang Kelin to stockpile a considerable amount of supplies at the temporary base, which were now being transported over. However, Wang Kelin’s team was attacked by bats en route, losing many people. Furthermore, transporting so many supplies across the sea was a great challenge. Whether they could make it here before winter depended entirely on luck.

“Helian Yun told the Old Master what happened that day, and he was so angry he fainted on the spot. If she hadn’t used her ability to stabilize the Old Master’s heart, I’m afraid we would be holding a funeral1 today.” Ji Qingshuang stood before the floor-to-ceiling window, looking up at the gloomy sky.

“So what did the Old Master say?” Su Wenwen felt a little uneasy. After all, Ji Qingshuang had been unaware when she gave Helian Yun the idea and might not agree to have Helian Yun transferred over.

“He said Helian Yun wants to go to the Eastern Base.” Ji Qingshuang turned to look at Su Wenwen and smiled. “She might leave and never come back.”

Su Wenwen was surprised; she hadn’t expected Helian Yun to choose to leave. However, for everyone involved, it was not a bad compromise solution, as they could avoid seeing each other and also evade Luo Tianyang’s retaliation.

Just then, Su Wenwen received a message from Helian Yun asking to meet. She hesitated for a moment, then decided it was time to draw a complete period2 on her previous relationship, so she agreed to Helian Yun’s request.

Helian Yun arranged to meet Su Wenwen at a restaurant and ordered a bowl of noodles for her. It contained only broth and a little bit of chili. Seeing this, Su Wenwen smiled faintly but said nothing.

When Helian Yun saw that she didn’t pick up her chopsticks, she was momentarily at a loss for words. The two sat in silence for a while before Helian Yun finally couldn’t help but speak. “I remember this is how you like your noodles best. If you don’t eat soon, the noodles will get clumpy.”

Su Wenwen picked up her chopsticks, a sigh rising from deep within her. “Helian Yun, I never liked eating noodles this way. I’ve always preferred strong flavors; I can’t stomach bland noodles. But back then, money was tight, so I could only add a little chili and make do with it.”

“But you…” Helian Yun was stunned.

Su Wenwen had said she liked eating noodles that way, and Helian Yun had taken her at her word, never doubting whether it was true. Perhaps subconsciously, she believed that as long as it saved money, the truth didn’t matter. That’s why she never asked, “Do you really like it?” She was afraid that if she asked, she would get an answer she didn’t like. To avoid being accused by Su Wenwen of not being attentive, she would have had to spend time and effort playing the part of a nominal girlfriend—shopping, and placating her until she was happy.

So, what Su Wenwen liked and disliked, Helian Yun only knew what Su Wenwen told her. Even if it was a lie, she wished it were true, as long as Su Wenwen didn’t bother her and was available whenever called.

Helian Yun’s lips moved. “I’m sorry.”

Su Wenwen looked at Helian Yun in surprise. When she heard those two words, not only did she feel no ripples in her heart, but she was even able to reply in a very light tone, “It’s alright. I hope you can have a fresh start in your new place.”

Helian Yun nodded. She hadn’t expected Su Wenwen’s reaction to be so placid. She lowered her head, quite dejected and feeling lost about the future.

After finishing her noodles, Su Wenwen prepared to leave. This would probably be the last time she saw Helian Yun. Before she left, she sized Helian Yun up. The once confident and flamboyant person was now enveloped in an air of dejection, having lost her original dazzling radiance and become an unremarkable passerby.

Leaving the small restaurant, Su Wenwen saw Luo Xi standing on the opposite side of the road. Her inexplicable expression made Su Wenwen nervous at once. Unsure how long Luo Xi had been standing there or if she had misunderstood something, she quickly jogged over to Luo Xi’s side. Just as she was about to explain, Luo Xi spoke first, her tone faint: “Let’s go, home.”

Su Wenwen followed beside Luo Xi, opening her mouth to speak several times, but Luo Xi’s cold attitude made the words catch in her throat. For the first time, she felt that this Luo Xi was a bit of a stranger, not gentle at all. The beauty mark at the corner of her eye seemed to be burning with fire, which was a little frightening.

All the way, she was on edge3. After they got home, Su Wenwen planned to wait for Luo Xi to calm down before talking about her meeting with Helian Yun. Who would have known that the moment she stepped over the threshold, Luo Xi would hug her tightly from behind.

Burying her face in Su Wenwen’s neck, she said, “You don’t have to explain. I trust you. I was just a little scared. Scared that Helian Yun would take you away. Even though I know it’s impossible, I’m still scared.”

“Wenwen, promise me you’ll never leave.”

Su Wenwen had thought she was the one who should be worried, but she never expected Luo Xi to be so anxious as well. A sweet feeling filled her heart. Without hesitation, she nodded firmly. In response, she received Luo Xi’s passionate reply.

Her sensitive earlobe was caught and gently licked by the tip of a tongue. Su Wenwen’s body reacted instantly, and the sounds that escaped her lips became the best aphrodisiac, making Luo Xi’s actions even more fervent.

She felt as if her entire being was melting into Luo Xi’s body, so weak she had no strength left. She relied entirely on Luo Xi’s single arm around her to keep from collapsing.

She didn’t want to be so passive and tried to find something to hold onto, but the sofa was just out of reach. Luo Xi seemed to notice her predicament. Kissing her all the while, she guided Su Wenwen toward the sofa. Maintaining the embrace from behind, she pressed Su Wenwen down onto it.

Lying on her stomach, Su Wenwen couldn’t see Luo Xi behind her. All her senses were heightened, as if she were blindfolded, creating an unusually strong and different kind of stimulation that made her already weak body melt into a puddle of water.

Just at the critical moment, the identifiers on their wrists suddenly began to make a “didi” sound. Su Wenwen managed to lift her hand to look. It was time for their medical check-up; the health status on the screen had changed to “Awaiting Examination.”

“Wait, we have to go for our check-up.”

“Mm, no rush. We’ll go after we’re finished.”

Su Wenwen, wearing a beige overcoat, pulled her collar up high and hid behind Luo Xi as they queued. The people who came for their check-ups today were all people they had met on the ship. When they saw Su Wenwen and Luo Xi, they greeted them enthusiastically and gave up their spots, since without Luo Xi’s ability, they would have all drowned at sea.

The examination process was simple, just a blood test to check for any illnesses. CT scans and the like were temporarily unavailable because the base’s power supply was limited. They needed to conserve electricity in preparation for the coming winter.

Most people’s test results showed minor issues, like anemia, high blood pressure, or malnutrition, all of which were still considered a “healthy” status.

Su Wenwen’s test results showed all indicators were far above the passing line; she didn’t even have any trivial minor issues. This was likely due to the System; as long as Su Wenwen didn’t do anything to court death, her body would basically never get sick.

When it was Luo Xi’s turn to get her test results, a group of guards suddenly appeared and surrounded her, saying there was a problem with her report and she needed further examination.

Su Wenwen frowned. She knew perfectly well that there was nothing wrong with Luo Xi’s body, and the base was very serious about everyone’s physical condition, so the probability of error was low. She was therefore suspicious of the guards’ words: “What kind of problem is on her report?”

“We have nothing to disclose.” A guard replied, completely ignoring Su Wenwen and making a “please” gesture to Luo Xi. “If you would please come with us, Miss Luo.”

Even knowing how powerful Luo Xi was, the guards were tall and imposing, making Luo Xi look small and delicate in front of them. Su Wenwen felt a surge of anger along with her distress. “What do you mean, ‘nothing to disclose’? She’s my girlfriend, the most important person to me. If you don’t explain clearly, don’t even think about taking her away.”

“Oh? Are you planning to fight us?” one of the guards, their captain and the tallest and strongest of them, asked.

“Wrong. I have no intention of fighting. But as guards of the base, you have rules and regulations for everything you do. I happen to remember that one of those regulations requires test results to be transparent. If someone raises an objection to a test result, you are required to state the issue clearly and perform a re-test.” Su Wenwen hadn’t been helping Ji Qingshuang for nothing these past few days. This was one of the reasons she admired Ji Qingshuang: all the rules and regulations were extremely reasonable, something that would be very difficult for anyone else to establish in such a short time.

The man’s eyes were cold. Seeing that a crowd had gathered, he took out the test report and said to everyone, “See for yourselves. All the indicators on her report are abnormal. That’s why we need to take her for a separate, further examination. If she has some serious illness, she will be sent to the restricted zone for treatment. This is for the safety of everyone in the base.”

The man had intended to use public pressure, but Su Wenwen didn’t fall for it. “Tsk. But when she first entered the base, her test results were perfectly normal. How could they become abnormal in just one month? To put my mind at ease, I demand to accompany and supervise your examination. There’s no problem with that, right?”

Subsequently, she added, “According to the base’s laws, to prevent the abuse of power for personal gain, everyone in our base has the right to supervise one another.”

At this, someone in the crowd raised their hand. “I’ve studied medicine and know a little about medical equipment. I also request to follow and supervise.”

“Hey, I’ll go too. Miss Luo helped me before. I won’t be at ease until I see she’s safe with my own eyes.”

“Then I’m going too…”

Su Wenwen was surprised to see the crowd standing up for them. As more and more people demanded to join, the man’s expression became extremely ugly, but he couldn’t refuse. He could only re-examine Luo Xi in front of everyone. And Luo Xi’s body was, in fact, perfectly fine. Seeing this, everyone offered their congratulations and dispersed to their own homes.

As the two of them walked down the street, Luo Xi suddenly leaned in close and said, “Wenwen, do you know what you looked like in my eyes just now?”

“A goddess, descending from the heavens.”
