Plan A
Running with the Ball 13
Feng Linhan came out with a backpack; inside were two sets of Su Xin’s clothes.
“Where’s He Qin?”
“She went home.”
The meal’s over, what’s she still doing here anyway.
“I packed two sets of clothes for you to change into. Do you need anything else?”
“No, that’s fine.”
“Well, remember to call me if you’re missing anything, or just come home and get it.”
“Okay.”
“You absolutely must take care of your body.”
“I know, I know.”
Feng Linhan and Su Xin walked to the door, Su Xin carrying the small bag.
“President Bai, I’ll have to trouble you to take care of Xiaoxiao.”
“It’s what I should do.”
Bai Jianglan uttered the three words coolly and took the bag from Su Xin’s hand.
“I’ll carry it.”
Feng Linhan saw Su Xin and Bai Jianglan to the entrance of the residential complex, watching as Su Xin got into Bai Jianglan’s car.
“Remember to call me.”
“Mhm, okay.”
Feng Linhan wanted to say more, but the car had already sped away.
Soothing music played in the car, and the window was cracked open a little for ventilation.
“Will it be convenient for you to sleep alone?”
“My body has already recovered.”
Su Xin was a little helpless. She was just pregnant, but Bai Jianglan always made her feel as if something catastrophic had happened.
“I’ll go back and tidy up a guest room for you.”
“Okay.”
Bai Jianglan wasn’t particularly good at forcing conversation, so she drove in silence.
Su Xin was looking down at her phone when she saw that Wen Linlang had posted a status update.
【Hahahaha heeheehee hehehe lalala I can’t wait!】
Jiang Xiao: What’s got you so happy?
Wen Linlang: Something big, something great, I’m super excited.
Jiang Xiao: emmmmm
Wen Linlang: My ten-thousand-year-old iceberg1 of a third cousin is supposedly dating someone and is even bringing them home!
Jiang Xiao: emmmm then what are you so excited about.
Wen Linlang: I’m the first one to know the gossip2!
Jiang Xiao: Badass, badass.
Wen Linlang: Oh right, Dajie, let me tell you, I’m now completely over the influence of that scumbag.
Jiang Xiao: Very good, very good.
Wen Linlang: How do you think a scumbag like that managed to date two pretty and cute girls like me and Xu Yiman at the same time? Tsk tsk tsk. Xu Yiman is my middle school deskmate, the original partner, she’s a really nice person, super gentle.
Jiang Xiao: Does “gentle” include slapping people?
Wen Linlang: You can’t really blame her for that. But she’s super nice to me, it’s just that I feel like it’s a bit of a weird kind of nice.
Jiang Xiao: Weird?
Wen Linlang: Yeah, she’s always looking at me. When she looks, she’ll stare for a long time.
Wen Linlang: I’ll tell you next time, she’s here.
Su Xin closed the chat window, feeling that something was up.
“We’re here.”
Bai Jianglan spoke up.
Bai Jianglan’s home was in a high-end residential complex. She hadn’t bought a villa in the suburbs simply because it was too far from her workplace.
Su Xin followed Bai Jianglan upstairs. Upon entering her home, she was somewhat taken aback to see the messy coffee table in the living room and the trash in the bin.
It was because Bai Jianglan didn’t seem like the type of person who would be so casual at home and allow her table to get so messy.
“My cousin is staying with me. She made this mess. She’ll clean it up when she gets back.”
“I see. Which room is mine?”
“If you don’t mind, you can stay in my secondary bedroom. Aside from the guest room my cousin is in, the other guest rooms haven’t been used in a long time. I’m afraid the dust might be unhealthy for you.”
This was true, Bai Jianglan wasn’t lying—although the problem she mentioned could be solved very quickly, if she wanted to.
“Of course, no problem.”
Su Xin tilted her head to glance at Bai Jianglan, her expression quite playful.
Master Fourteen, I think she’s interested in me.
No matter how good a person is, they wouldn’t possibly help to this extent, being so overly eager like this.
Staying in a guest room would have been fine. But earlier, Bai Jianglan even asked if I wanted to sleep in the same bed as her. Her intentions were simply blatantly revealed.
【This one believes that in such matters, the Host’s own feelings should be the standard.】
Has the Host’s emotional intelligence improved so noticeably? If, even at this point, she still thought this was some kind of pure sisterly affection, then even it, as an AI, would feel like coughing up blood.
Ahem.
Su Xin carried her small bag into Bai Jianglan’s master bedroom. The room’s style was clearly minimalist. It wasn’t a cold palette of black, white, and gray; large swathes of blue made the space feel very comfortable, and the furnishings were extremely simple.
Bai Jianglan pushed open the door to the secondary bedroom. It was spotlessly clean inside, the bed neatly made, not looking like anyone had slept in it.
“I clean in here often. My little nephew stayed here before, twice.”
“Mhm, okay.”
The bed in the secondary bedroom wasn’t small either; it was large enough for two adult women to lie down.
Su Xin hung her clothes in the empty wardrobe, finished unpacking her things, and settled in.
“Are you thirsty? Are you hungry?”
“Not thirsty. And besides, didn’t we just get back from eating?”
Bai Jianglan was a little embarrassed. She was just too excited and too nervous, which left her feeling at a loss, her mind a chaotic mess.
“Then are you going to wash up now, or do you want to do something else?”
“I’ll go play on my phone in the living room.”
“Okay, then I’ll tidy up a bit. I don’t know when my cousin will be back, and I need to work at that table later.”
“Mhm.”
Just as Bai Jianglan was about to start cleaning, she heard the sound of the lock turning. She knew her cousin was back.
Wen Linlang was incredibly excited. She had just seen her cousin’s car downstairs, which meant her cousin and that man were in the apartment right now! The moment she opened the door, she would see the man’s true face!
Hahahahahaha ahahahaha… ha… ha… ha…
Wen Linlang froze. The smile in her heart slowed to a crawl… Could someone please explain to her why, inside her cousin’s home, there wasn’t some strange man, but her dorm’s Dajie!
“Dajie?”
???
“Linlang?”
???
“So you’re Jianglan’s cousin.”
Wen Linlang nodded woodenly.
“Cousin, is she the friend you said you were bringing back?”
“Mhm. You two know each other?”
“It’s more than just knowing, we couldn’t be more familiar! We slept in the same room for several years, you know!”
Wen Linlang’s mind was endlessly looping with “what the hell.”
Strange man = Dajie?
What kind of utterly depraved and insane3 equation was this?
Bai Jianglan narrowed her eyes. She really didn’t like that description.
The three of them sorted out their relationship. Su Xin and Bai Jianglan were only surprised for a moment before recovering their composure, completely unruffled. Only Wen Linlang remained in a state of prolonged and sustained shock.
It wasn’t shocking that the friend was Dajie; what was shocking was that her cousin might like Dajie!
Wait a minute… actually, they don’t seem like a bad match.
Given Dajie’s situation, the sooner she tortures that scumbag and the other woman to death, the better.
Then she can kick the trash to the curb and be with my cousin.
In Wen Linlang’s eyes, Bai Jianglan was flawless: good-looking, smart, from a wealthy family, a hard worker who could also earn her own money. She seemed cold as ice, but she was a good person. Although her moral compass was a bit off, who hadn’t strayed a little? As long as it wasn’t illegal or against public order, it was fine.
And my cousin is definitely a very devoted person. Dajie would absolutely be super happy with her!
Just as Wen Linlang was about to speak with a smile, Bai Jianglan ruthlessly poured a basin of cold water on her.
“Look at this mess you’ve made. Clean it up first before you say anything else. I need to work here soon.”
Bai Jianglan was still a little unhappy inside, all because of what Wen Linlang had just said.
Wen Linlang went to clean up, feeling wronged, glancing at Su Xin one moment and then at Bai Jianglan the next.
After she finished cleaning, Wen Linlang sat quietly, watching Su Xin and Bai Jianglan.
Bai Jianglan had already laid out her things and was preparing to start work.
Su Xin was playing on her phone on the sofa, and Wen Linlang also picked up her phone and started tapping away.
Wen Linlang: Dajie! How did you and my cousin meet!
Jiang Xiao: A cooperative relationship. She was the one who took me to the hospital that day.
Wen Linlang: !!! The thing about fate, it’s simply too wonderful for words!
Jiang Xiao: So what’s the problem, can’t you just say it to my face? You’re literally sitting right across from me.
Wen Linlang: Then shall we go to the balcony for a little chat?
Su Xin and Wen Linlang stood up at the same time and walked out toward the balcony.
Bai Jianglan’s attention drifted to the two of them, leaving her with no mind to work.
What on earth are those two going out there to do? What is there to say that can’t be said in front of me?
“Dajie! Let me tell you, you have no idea how great my cousin is. She’s had outstanding grades since she was little, she’s strict with herself, and most importantly, she never got into puppy love. She still hasn’t been in a relationship to this day!”
Wen Linlang was actually trying to emphasize that if Su Xin dated Bai Jianglan, she would be her first love. But for some reason, Wen Linlang felt that the words sounded a bit odd coming out of her own mouth, as if she weren’t praising someone, but insulting them.
“Pfft…“
“Jie, don’t get me wrong, I don’t mean my cousin isn’t attractive. You know she’s very good-looking, but not a single one of those guys dared to get close to her. Her aura is just too powerful. With just one cold look from her, who knows how many guys would chicken out.”
No, why is this so weird? The more I talk, the more of a mess I make, and the more I try to explain, the worse it gets.
“I think you might want to reorganize your words.”
“I just wanted to praise my cousin for being a really good and outstanding person.”
“I know that. She is indeed a very good person.”
“Right, right? You’ll be very happy and joyful with her.”
“Linlang…”
“Hm?”
“Your tone sounds just like one of my seven great-aunts and eight eighth-aunts4 trying to set me up on a blind date.”
Su Xin had never had this experience, but Jiang Xiao had.
Wen Linlang was startled. Did my auntie smile show?
Su Xin walked back into the room. Wen Linlang followed behind her, worried that she had blown her cover. Her cousin hadn’t even successfully wooed her yet!
“So she’s the one who said she wanted to be the baby’s godmother last time.”
Bai Jianglan narrowed her eyes, looking at Wen Linlang.
“Cousin, you want to be a godmother too?”
Wen Linlang let out a dry laugh.
“Then I’ll be the second godmother.”
Wen Linlang’s voice trembled as she spoke.
Linlang of the streets, all talk and no spine5.
